Who is Jumbo?

At Jumbo, we want customers to have a great shopping experience. We want it to be a bit of a celebration instead of a daily chore. We make tasty and healthy food easily accessible to everybody. We don't do this alone. We do this with all our employees and cooperation partners. Always while considering people, animals and the environment. We ask ourselves if we can do better each and every day: more efficient, healthier or more enjoyable for our customers. We are right in the middle of society as a supermarket company and we work on the present for the future.

‘A colourful history

It all started in 1921 with Johan van Eerd and his food wholesale business. The first stores were added in the 1960s. In 1983, his son, Karel van Eerd, opened the first Jumbo supermarket in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and more Jumbo stores followed quickly during the course of the 1980s. In 1996, Karel opened together with his children Colette, Frits and Monique a unique supermarket based on the new Jumbo formula. Where the customer has the highest priority and built on the following pillars: lowest price, broadest product range and best service. It turned out to be a great success.

Various new stores and takeovers followed: ranging from Konmar (2007) and Super de Boer (2009) to the takeover of C1000 (2012) and Emté (2018). In 2019, Jumbo set its foot on Belgian soil and now Jumbo has nearly 700 stores. And in 2021, we have something special to celebrate: the centenary of the family-run business!

  • Indeed, our product range is complete. Our broad and relevant product range ensures our customers never have to go to another store. If our customers tell us a product is not available, we provide an alternative or make sure we have it next time.

We have the broadest supermarket product range at Jumbo. Is something missing? We will provide an alternative or will ensure the product is delivered to store for you.

At Jumbo, fresh is guaranteed to be fresh. We carefully select the best fresh products. Product with today's date? You can take the product home for free as a thank you for reporting it.
5. Shopping made easy
Fast and easy shopping: this is what shopping made easy means. In our stores, at our Pick Up Points and, of course, online. Are you the fourth person in the queue in the store? Free shopping!
6. Not fully satisfied?  Money back guarantee!
We are only satisfied when you are more than just satisfied. If you are still not fully satisfied, you can have a replacement product or your money back.

Stores & restaurants

Jumbo offers a wide choice to its customers through various channels. Wherever, whenever and however they want it.  In our stores, customers can choose from the broadest product range and will get the best service. Food experience also plays a key role at Jumbo. At the Jumbo Foodmarkt venues, the best of Jumbo and La Place comes together. Customers will find everything under one roof in relation to tasty food. From a fantastic and extensive (fresh) product range to a bite to eat at the attractive Foodcafé. With the Jumbo City convenience stores, we cater for the various customers who are located in city centres to work, study, shop and live.  Since 2016, La Place with restaurants in both the Netherlands and across the border has been a part of Jumbo.

Private and business customers can easily do their shopping fast through Jumbo.com and the Jumbo app when it suits them.


Organisation

Jumbo wants to be everywhere the customer is. We build on a well-considered omnichannel proposition with our various formulas especially in the Netherlands and, since 2019, in Belgium. Jumbo is also the owner of the La Place food service formula and the Smulweb nutrition and recipe platform with more than three million unique visitors per month.

Board of Directors:
Jumbo is completely the property of the Van Eerd family. Karel van Eerd is the chairman of the Board of Directors. Frits van Eerd is the Chief Executive Officer and Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd is the Chief Customer Officer. Together with Chief Financial Officer Ton van Veen and Chief Operating Officer Cees van Vliet, they form the Jumbo Board of Directors. They are responsible for the strategic management of Jumbo Groep Holding BV.


Passion and entrepreneurship in facts & figures

Down the years, Jumbo has grown to be the second largest supermarket chain of the Netherlands and the first stores are also a fact in Belgium. 1996 was the year in which the first store opened in the Netherlands based on the unique Jumbo formula.
